WHAT IS IMIGRAN® MIGRAINE USED FOR?

Imigran® Migraine is for acute relief of migraine in patients who have a stable, well-established pattern of symptoms.

Imigran® Migraine has been designed specifically for migraine relief and has been helping provide Australians with migraine relief for over 25 years. It’s an effective migraine treatment and when taken early, helps to stop the onset of migraines and associated symptoms.

What is the Active Ingredient in Imigran® Migraine tablets?

Imigran® Migraine contains the active ingredient sumatriptan succinate. This medicine belongs to a group of medications called serotonin agonists.

– Triptans have been shown to be one of the most effective ways to treat migraine
– Sumatriptan was the first triptan and specifically developed for people with migraine

How should I take Imigran® Migraine?

Imigran® Migraine tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

When should I take Imigran® Migraine?

It is best to take your Imigran® Migraine tablet:

When your migraine headache begins or
When other symptoms of your migraine begin, such as nausea (feeling sick), vomiting or your eyes becoming sensitive to light.

If you take your tablet later during the migraine attack it can still work for you.
Do NOT take your Imigran® Migraine tablet before the above symptoms occur.

What is the recommended dosage?

The recommended starting dose for adults is one 50 mg tablet.

If the first Imigran® Migraine tablet helps your migraine, but the migraine comes back later, you may take another Imigran® Migraine tablet. Do not take more than 100mg (2 tablets) in any 24 hour period

You may take your usual headache relief medication provided it does not contain ergotamine or methysergide. If you are not sure what to do, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Do NOT take more Imigran® Migraine tablets, if the first dose did not provide any relief from your symptoms.

What are migraines?

Migraine is more than just a really bad headache. While migraine attack vary for everyone, you can usually narrow it down depending on the types of symptoms you have. So, if you’re experiencing throbbing or pounding pain on the side of your head, nausea or vomiting, are sensitive to light or sounds, then you may be experiencing a migraine attack.

What triggers migraine?

It is not always easy to identify migraine triggers as attacks may be linked to one or a number of things. Some common migraine triggers include: • Certain foods or drinks • Being stressed • Being tired • Changes in the environment • Hormonal changes – such as starting your period or menopause • Vigorous exercise

What is an Aura?

Migraine aura is a group of symptoms that temporarily affect your nervous system – most often involving your vision or other senses – and usually happens before the headache phase of migraine starts

Who should not use Imigran® Migraine & when is Imigran® Migraine not recommended?

You must not take Imigran® Migraine tablets if: • you have ever had an allergic reaction to sumatriptan succinate or any of the ingredients listed. • you have or have had: − heart disease or heart attack. − shortness of breath, pain or tightness in the chest, jaw or upper arm. − peripheral vascular disease (pain in the back of the legs) or are prone to cold, tingling or numb hands and feet. − Prinzmetal’s angina (an uncommon form of angina where pain is experienced at rest rather than during activity). − angina. − high blood pressure. − stroke. − severe liver disease. If you have taken any of the following medication in the last 24 hours: ergotamine (eg cafergot), Dihydroergotamine (eg Dihydergot), Methsergide (eg Deseril), naratriptan (eg Naramig) and Zolmitriptan (eg Zomig). • If you have taken any of the following medicines in the last two weeks: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a type of medication used for depression. SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) or SNRIs (Serotonin-noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors) used to treat depression. • The expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack has passed. The packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
